THE VALUE OF MATH COMMUNITIES
Let’s Succeed Together

ABOUT ME
I have been a secondary math teacher for 31 years. My career has taken me from Washington state to Ohio to the Republic of Palau to Malaysia back to Ohio and now to Virginia. My goal in the classroom is to create a math community where students can thrive and have fun learning math. A math community engages students and creates a space where rigorous math can take place.
SERVICES
EDUCATIONAL COUNSELING

I want to thank you for inviting me in to watch your grade 7 number talk today. It is evident that the students enjoyed the number talk as they continue to develop their math strategies. The purposeful way you chose your problem to guide your students around developing their understanding around compensation was done masterfully. I know your students took a lot out of today’s number talk. My hat is off to you!

I can honestly say that I left each session with something I could immediately implement in the classroom; much of it completely new, some of it helpful tweaks to methods I'd already employed in the past. I have the utmost confidence in Joe, and I have continued to reach out to him as I continue in this school system. I trust his advice and I value his ideas and insight. Joe helped me to implement more mathematically rich discussion in my group work sessions and I think of him every time my students use one of his sentence starters in the classroom. I wholeheartedly recommend Joe for both new and experienced teachers.
